Most of the stndard reports in the Compiere ERP were created using the Report View feature in the Application Dictionary. The followings are the steps to create a “Standard” Report in Compiere using the Application Dictionary (AD).

1)Create the actual Oracle View or table in the database – I find it very productive to use TOAD to accomplish this. You can create the view based on the existing available view. I find it faster and safer this way. Please take note, for all new view that created by us, please the pre-fix of eg. AC or other for easy identification of customisation.

2)Login in to the system using System Administrator role to register the table under -> Application Dictionary -> Define table and columns. Once you have given the name that matches the name of the Oracle view or table, you can let the system populate the columns and default system elements by pressing the button on the screen. You might want to verify the columns and the system elements generated (for the new view) with the similar “standard” fields for other existing view or table. For example, the date field is generated as “date+time” format by default, you might want to set it to only “date”.

3)Once the new view is registered in system, the next logical step is to create the Report View based on the new view. The name of the report view can be everything you like. However, I would strongly suggest that you follow closely the name of the new view you created and naming convention (start with AC_??) for ease of maintenance. You can put additional condition on the “where” and “order by” on the ->Application Dictionary-> create Report View screen. (You do not need to enter additional column as the system will clever enough to make reference to the actual view for the right column name.

4)After the creation of Report View, you will then need to register a “process or report” so that you can link this “process or report” to a menu option. You will need to define few report parameters at this point in time. Please refer to the parameter used on other “standard” report for reference.

5)You can then create the menu item by navigate to ->system rule->menu. You can copy from the existing similar report menu item and rename it to the actual name or you can create the menu it from scratch. I find it easier to copy and rename as it ensures that you do not miss any field. However, you need to link (select from the dropdown list)  the correct “process or report”. Once done, move your menu item to the right menu section.

6)Re-login to the system with standard user and select the report to test the output.

7)The report output (report view) is in it raw format. You can select the custom report button on the output screen reformat your report. Remember to save all your changes and press the return button to re-generate the new report format.

The above steps are the same steps I mentioned in the other forum for creating a standard report in the system without much programming.
