Pictures of the year: lions, tigers and bears
[ 2008-12-26 17:39 ]

In 2008, we saw many gregarious【群居的】 animals showing off for the cameras, which is why we must tip our hats to the more bashful【害羞的】 wild animals, like this Hungarian【匈牙利的】 owl【猫头鹰】. (Agencies)

Conchita, the three-week-old white-naped【白颈的】 mangabey【白眉猴】 monkey at London Zoo, was found protection in the form of an old teddy【泰迪熊】. (Agencies)

But the bashful animal of the year just has to be this giant panda cub【幼兽】, who played peek-a-boo【躲猫猫;藏猫猫】 with the photographers. (Agencies)

We considered giving the 'wildest animal' award to Yachan, the black belt ninja【日本武士;忍者】 ape【猿】. (Agencies)

Then we remembered the tough hen that scared an eagle so he'd never return to eat her. (Agencies)

But our winner is Aman, the 20-year-old orangutan【猩猩】 who had his eyesight【视力】 restored【恢复】 after 10 years of blindness. He looked in the mirror, saw his cheeks and went ballistic【发怒;发脾气】! (Agencies)

The 'it thinks it's a person' award was tough call. Christmas cheer made us consider these seasonal penguins【企鹅】. (Agencies)

This warmly dressed simian【猴子;类人猿】, out for a stroll【闲逛;漫步】 in Moscow, should have been the recipient. (Agencies)

But the winner had to be the saxophone-playing walrus【海象】. Coming to a jazz bar near you. (Agencies)

The 'creature comforts' award very nearly went to this group of Indian monkeys who found the benefits of air conditioning. (Agencies)
